Data Analytics in Industry 4.0 - this could very well be the title of a movie about the future, but it is about what we are experiencing today, universally, because of our evolution with data science and analysis. Really, it seems like something from another dimension, right?

To talk about the value that information has today and come up with projections of it for the future, let's look at the past, at the value that communication had (and still has!) since we knew it.

Take advantage of this content to learn a little more about our own history until we reach this present version of the future.

Happy reading!

Data analytics: what is it?

"What do you really do?" asks one in two mothers of sons and daughters who work in data analysis.

This information is a joke... 🤣

But the lack of knowledge about one of the world's most valuable activities is practically widespread. Therefore, it is up to us, beings immersed in this universe, to explain in a way that is understandable to laymen and women what data analytics is. And that's one of our goals here.

It's not as complicated as it sounds, even if data analytics isn't something that's tangible, physically speaking. Let's explain it in good Portuguese. Notice that the words themselves denote their meaning:

That is:

Data analytics Portuguese is the work done to analyze information (data) obtained after investigation and research on identified patterns and deviations. And all of this is done for a specific purpose by those who are data analysts.

Simply put, that's it. Let's see how it all started...

How did data analytics come about? Where did it come from?

It was only about 15 years ago that the term data analytics began to be understood in the business world as we understand it today. That's when we started to expand our capacity and ability to tell stories, now from data.

But this storytelling started long, long before that. For example, we have historical records:

- the Chinese thinker and philosopher Confucius reporting surveys made in China 2,000 years before the Christian era;

- of pharaohs of ancient Egypt, who made systematic use of statistical information; and

- of the Roman Emperor Augustus and his three censuses: in 28 BC, 8 BC and 14 AD.

Augusto de Prima Porta statue of the Roman emperor located in the Chiaramonti Museum of the Vatican.

It wasn't a leap that we got here, but it's a fact that the evolution of what we now call data analytics is making great strides.

Now, however, we're going to look at the present and you'll understand how we're currently working with it.

Data analytics: what is done, how is it done and why is it done?

Let's take it one at a time.

1) What do you do in data analytics?

Results are presented. But first, in the area of data analytics, preliminary information is organized and synthesized to be analyzed with the help of technological tools. Then, data analysts create reports with the most precious data that has been extracted from this analysis to deliver them to decision-makers.

2) How do you do data analytics?

First, there is a consultation between the company and the contracted data analytics team to recognize the systems that are already used. It is from there that, for example, a data analyst from Indicium will take her input to then transform the information into precious data.

3) Why is data analytics done?

Have you ever heard the saying "data is the new oil"? So, that's why you do data analysis. Companies with consistent data analytics practices are seeing significant annual growth. And this is a fact that is consolidated even in organizations that are investing in analytics to overcome themselves in this pandemic. Now, as in all professions, there are many wolves in sheep's clothing who sell dreams, but do not have the know-how to make them come true...

Where are we today in data analytics?

In order to remain competitive, how nice it would be if soon every company in the world could turn its attention to innovative business models using data analytics.

Here at Indicium, with projects in data analytics, we have been working to transform the reality of companies of all sizes in their markets, creating ways to improve data storage processes so that they can make intelligent decisions in real time.

We have extensive experience in integrating data solutions for clients from various industries, who are satisfied with our unique and customized frameworks.

But we don't sell unattainable dreams, we don't burn steps, we don't skip phases.

We are leaders in our field of expertise in Latin America and we know empirically that data revolutionizes the status of any company that dedicates itself to it. It requires patience, involvement, and a lot of learning. We apply everything we know and are a living example of our work.

Where are we going?
