For women in technology , how is the job market? Indicium has been shortening the path for women to access all sectors of the company.
And on this International Women's Day , we remember that this date cannot be restricted to the calendar. Within the job market (and in all areas of life), there is still a long way to go.
In this article, we will tell you how we are working to overcome the suppressed time for women's participation in technology , which includes data science , of course.
Throughout the text, we will better understand the reality for women in the current market , and learn about stories from datanauts at Indicium 🚀.
Happy reading!🧐
International Women's Day: how did the date come about?
After several dates dedicated to women throughout history, generally within the context of struggles for their rights, the UN officially declared March 8th as International Women's Day.
Since then, this day has had the purpose of remembering the struggle for women 's economic, political and social achievements .
However, when we talk about the reality of women in the technology area , we see IBGE data showing that only 37.4% of management positions in 2019 were held by women.
And inequality increases when we talk about salaries: 37% of women earn 34% less than men.
Recognizing these disparities is the first step towards change. Mainly in the tech market , still predominantly made up of men.
Indicium understands that this market is possible for everyone, including the data science area , and that there is certainly a great opportunity for women to also experience professional advancement and reverse the reality of female representation in the tech area .
How can data science help boost female participation?
A factor to be taken into account for women to enter this market with everything ( data science specifically speaking) is the current technological blackout we are suffering.
Here are some points to take into consideration when diving into the technology field, especially the area of data sciences :
- It is the area of the future (and the present!)
- the average annual salary in Brazil is R$87 thousand
- in three years, the technology sector will require around 797 thousand professionals
- It has many possibilities for action ( here on the Indicium blog we have already talked about several of them)
- is essential: 37% of IT leaders are aware that the use of analytics for their business will be the segment of greatest investment this year .
In other words, we can say that, even in the face of such a critical phase as the one we are currently experiencing worldwide, the reality in the job market in the area of technology (for women included) is a very optimistic scenario.
Indicium: opportunities not only in the area of data sciences
For women in technology , how is the job market? Indicium has been shortening the path for women to access all areas of the company.
And, like every successful company , we are made up of different mechanisms to make this rocket take off.
Our crew already has more than 80 employees , from the administrative sector, through the project management team, people management to the marketing area.
In other words, Indicium is not just a data scientist . 😀
Therefore, now meet some of the incredible professionals who overcame obstacles and embarked on our intertechnological flight, working at various hierarchical levels of the company.
I want to celebrate this day especially with the entire Indicium women's team. Together, we are working to also open paths and increase the representation of women in the technology field. It's great to see Indicium's movement to strengthen, motivate and promote more and more professional and academic opportunities for women to follow their paths in the world of data science and analytics, and in other areas of the company, as in my case, working on the marketing, where I am rethinking our communication day by day with an eye towards inclusion. We know very well that this awakening of consciousness is just beginning. We still have a long way to go!
Being a people management coordinator in a technology company is a unique experience!
Acting to attract and select the best talents on the market, promote health and well-being actions to generate a good organizational climate, develop strategies for valuing and retaining professionals who deliver their best products every day and help the company grow, are actions that make my eyes shine daily!
In a market where there is a predominance of male professionals, we can add the challenge of promoting the inclusion of women in this job market, which is so valued, with attractive salaries and constant learning.
Indicium already promotes actions in this regard, offering discounts to women on their training courses at the Indicium Academy . Therefore, as a professional woman who is part of one of the fastest growing data companies in the Brazilian market, I feel immense pride in being part of this scenario and I hope to be able to contribute to the increasing inclusion of women in technology .
It's great to be part of a company like Indicium . Our team has been increasingly structured and, even in a universe that, by convention, is much more surrounded by male people, the growing entry of women, excellent professionals, who are equal to the rest of the team or stand out for their multi-talented and professionalism, helping in this growing paradigm shift.
In marketing, where I work, we seek to convey that we are open to all women, always bringing diversity into our communication in a simple and light way.
We seek to find and give visibility to the female audience within the universe of data through the most diverse materials and communication vehicles of our brand.
Little by little, with small daily victories, we become better and increasingly walk together in this fight for equality in all areas of life.
Entering the world of technology was one of the greatest achievements of my career.
From the beginning, working at Indicium , I didn't feel any different because I was practically the only woman in that environment. On the contrary, our team has always been very careful, attentive, respectful and valuing women in their daily work lives .
At the time I participated in the selection process, I hoped that more women would have the courage to launch themselves into this market.
Now, with more than 20 women working in the company, I feel even more represented and I hope that we can occupy many, many more spaces! Leadership, C-levels... The sky is the limit!
